This weeks counts as the humid weather has seen the counts on the rise in all areas. As we are now seeing quite variable levels of risk, a spore count of your farm is strongly advised to assess your stocks risk of exposure and if Zinc coverage is needed.
Several ways to reduce fungal toxin exposure:
- Prioritising the position of most at risk stock (replacements ewe lambs/heifer calves) on known safe pastures.
- Avoid grazing to low residuals to reduce intake of spores
- Zinc treatments – intrarumenal boluses, oral dosing of zinc oxide, zinc trough/water treatments (cattle)
- Reducing spore loading by supplementary feeding
- Spraying selected paddocks with a fungicide to prevent count numbers rising.
If you have any questions feel free to contact the clinic for some advice.
Wishing everyone a great Easter!
